Well isn't that something? Saturday rolled around and I started out to install a new water softener. But something went haywire in that plan and I grabbed ahold of the excavator and decided to trim down the front lawn infront of the house. That went really good, and quite quick. I like to think that I did a good job. But then after I decided I was done, I was informed that I should have leveled it off instead of grading it down to the main part of the drive way. This wasn't good. So I put the dirt back in and dug trenches to put a retaining wall. Got some lumber for the wall, creosote soaked *rail road ties* and they were very expensive ($10 each!) and they were already used *rail road, duh* so they had holes in them and some wear and tear. Chips, cracks, divits, etc. So we started putting the wall together, with me doing 99% of the work, lugging the lumber and driving the spikes in. We got 25 ties and they weigh at least 100 lbs. each. So I had fun doing all that. Having to level them in the trench, and overlap them so the wall actually had some structure to it. That took Saturday to 1830 hrs since it became dark then. Today we finished the wall and backfilled the new space and cleaned up all the other crap in the yard *piles of dirt and rocks and crap*. Then I took the excavator and went into the back yard with it and knocked over a dead pine tree that was in a good location to fall on the house, so I pushed it the other way and it broke off quite nicely. Then I beat the hell out of the stump with the claw, breaking it up good. I then took out a very large *larger than I had thought* stump of a pine tree that has been there since I can remember *so at least 23 years* and I thought "no problem, probably all rotten". Well, it wasn't. I finally got it out after breaking it apart with the claw and digging from the side under the root structure. I had one piece that was under the Mustang so I had to reposition and drag that part out side-to from the car. I don't think I damaged the Mustang. I hope not. Then I got the roller out and rolled over all the stuff, packing it down with the vibrating drum. So for an amature I think it turned out good. I might take some pictures. But don't hold your breath. What did YOU do this weekend?
