Well, it has been a month. A month and a day infact if you are counting. At any rate I guess it is time that I posted something new. Currently I am wearing just my towel while I sit and type this. It is so friggin hot up here it is pathetic.
Currently I am down to just the laptop. I moved my new steel/glass desk around and put the desktop on it. But I haven't bothered to plug that in yet. I still need to move the printer or get a different cord for it. I haven't decided what I will do with that yet. But by having two desks for the two computers that actually gives me a flat surface to *work* on, but right now there are some bowls and the clothes I will be putting on in a few minutes on that clear area. Too many wires and gizmos, it is like a wirey jungle down there.
On Thursday I got the bright idea to lug an engine up the stairs at the shop to see if I could get it to work. It was a Yanmar Diesel engine. 7.1 Kw (9.6 hp or so) and it is about the size of a briggs and stratton engine. The fuel tank and muffler are already factory installed on it, along with a starter. So simple job I thought, pick it up and bring it up the stairs. Well that damn thing was a lot heavier that I had anticipated. But no strained muscles and more importantly no hernia, so yay. So I had this thing up stairs now. And I was looking at it. There were a series of wires on it. Two were self explainatory, positive and negative for the starter. There was an additional wire that was on the solenoid bracket *which controled the throttle but I removed that* which looked like a ground to me. Pretty sure that is what it was. I hooked that up to negative and then there were these two left over, a small black and a small green. So I didn't use those. I had this engine laying around for... must be nearing five years now. Basicly it was a left over. The power plant for an air compressor that was ordered wrong, there should have been a hydraulic motor instead of this diesel engine. So I removed the engine and put the motor in there. The engine just got put in the corner to hold some dust up off the floor. So at the time, when it was yanked out nothing was labeled or anything, and my memory of that whole ordeal was a bit rusty. Anyways, I hooked it up to a battery and tried to spin it over. The light would come on *telling me that there was power to the key* but it wouldn't turn over. After frigging with it that night I left it. In comes Friday. I decided to see how much voltage I had on this battery. It was brand new so it should have had a nice surface charge of 13 volts or about there. Certainly over 12. But when I put the tester on it, it registered only 9 volts. No wonder it wouldn't crank. One battery swap later, and I had it spinning over. But it wouldn't start. After frigging and frigging and frigging I determined that it was the throttle. One spacer later, the engine had life in it. And I admit, it ran alot smoother than I had anticipated. Very happy. So now that I have this engine, you might be asking yourself "self, I wonder what Cat has in store for it". Well, I have an idea of putting it in a boat. The boat design is 18 feet long and 50 inches wide. If you don't know much about boat design, basicly it is a knife. The longer a boat is at the waterline the faster it is, and when you combine that with a narrow beam *the length across it* you get even more speed. That is why all those offshore race boats and ciggarettes are so damn long. And twin hulls too. Basicly makes it even narrower, yay for catamarans. It will be just a little boat to basicly goof off in.
Fun stuff
So maybe some people will be happy with this update
And I am seriously thinking about starting that web comic, or just making a graphic novel for myself, I might post it, you never know. The images of the storyline are constantly going through my head. It isn't even a concious thought or anything like that. I think people would like it. But you never know.
